OBSCURA (MUNICH, GERMANY)
Formed in 2002 by guitarist/vocalist Steffen Kummerer. Obscura plays progressive death metal with a fair degree of variation and excellent musicianship that contrasts nicely with the brutal riffing. In late 2007, after the release of their first album Retribution, Kummerer has completely overhauled the lineup, bringing in drummer Hannes Grossmann (ex-Necrophagist), guitarist Christian Muenzner (ex-Necrophagist) and bassist Jeroen Paul Thesseling (Pestilence). PESTILENCE (ENSCHEDE, NETHERLANDS)
One of the top Dutch death/thrash bands of the late 80's and early 90's, with albums still regarded as some of the best death metal of the time. With their fourth album Spheres, released in 1993, they incorporated jazz/fusion influences to a death metal base. Pestilence disbanded around 1994, however, as of 2008 mainman Patrick Mameli resurrected the band again, releasing a fifth album Resurrection Macabre.
